Mr Edgar Tarriela

Ed has been an active member of LAWASIA since 1983 and currently serves the LAWASIA Council as Alternate Councillor for the Philippines. He is a Life Member of LAWASIA and has participated in Council Meetings since 2000. Recently, Mr Tarriela was elected President of LAWASIA Philippines, Inc., an organisation primarily organised to serve LAWASIA in collaboration with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP). Its local activities include contributions to the LAWASIA Business Law Forum (14-16 March 2019) and a bid to host LAWASIA’s annual conference in Manila in 2020.
Ed has participated as a speaker at several LAWASIA events, including the LAWASIA annual conferences in New Delhi (1985), Perth (1990s) and Bangkok (2000), covering subjects such as investment law, environmental law and taxation issues. In April 2016, he delivered a paper on “Doing business in the Philippines” to the German Federal Bar Association in Berlin. He has also published several articles on topics of taxation, environmental and commercial law.
Mr Tarriela completed both a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law at the University of the Philippines and obtained a Master in Comparative Law from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Ed has been active in the practice of law in the Philippines for many years and is also licensed to practice in New York. He was Dean of the Graduate School of Law at the Pamantasan Lungsod ng Maynila (a local university in Manila, Philippines) and served as a Law Professor at other institutions.
He is currently Managing Partner of Tarriela Tagao Ona – a commercial law firm in Pasig City, Philippines, which focuses on issues of taxation and foreign investment.
Mr Tarriela was elected as a member of the LAWASIA Executive Committee in 2018.
