A joint initiative between LAWASIA and The Law Society of Hong Kong

UIA and HKLS logo

The Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in Hong Kong (National Security Law) came into force in June 2020. Concerns have been expressed over the National Security Law’s content and implementation.

The speakers will deal with the key aspects of the National Security Law, including the offences and penalties under the law, the extra-territorial reach of National Security Law offences, the jurisdiction of the Hong Kong courts, the availability of due process and the independence of the judiciary.

The discourse will demonstrate relevant issues to be considered in enacting a national security law, including the balancing of human rights protections.
