Bar Associations have a critical societal duty in upholding the rule of law. This duty is sometimes called the " rule of law mandate ". It would require taking positions, without fear or favour, to promote the rule of law regardless of its own interest. This webinar will explore the challenges faced by bar associations in discharging this duty, and how these challenges are confronted and overcome.

LAWASIA, The Law Association for Asia and the Pacific, is a regional association of lawyers, judges, jurists and legal organisations, which advocates for the interests and concerns of the Asia Pacific legal profession. For over fifty years, LAWASIA has operated as a platform to promote the cross-jurisdictional exchange of legal knowledge; as a voice of the legal profession; and as a conduit for encouraging adherence to mutually-held principles of the rule of law, professional integrity and the protection of human rights.

Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA) is an international non-profit organisation which exists to promote and maintain the rule of law throughout the Commonwealth by ensuring that an independent and efficient legal profession, with the highest standards of ethics and integrity, serves the people of the Commonwealth. CLA seeks to uphold the rule of law by encouraging exchanges between members of the profession through projects, conferences and workshops and by driving improvements in legal education.

Law Council of Australia represents the Australian legal profession on national and international issues, on federal law and the operation of federal courts and tribunals.  It works for the improvement of the law and of the administration of justice.
The Law Council is a federal organisation representing 65,000 Australian lawyers through their bar associations and law societies and Law Firms Australia (the Constituent Bodies).

South Pacific Lawyers’ Association - or SPLA – is a regional organisation which represents the legal profession in the South Pacific. SPLA is comprised of member organisations and lawyers’ groups representing seventeen jurisdictions across the South Pacific region.
